Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Parent/Carer Information Evening

We invite families into school on an annual basis to share how we teach RSE at Queen Mary’s Grammar School. The information evening usually takes place in late September and is an opportunity for you to hear about our good practice at QMGS and to ask questions. Local Services

Walsall Council – Children and young people

Walsall Council’s website provides support, guidance and services for children, young people, and their families. It helps parents understand what support is available locally and how to access it.

Walsall School Nurses

The Walsall School Nursing Service offers health support for children and young people aged 5–19. They provide advice on emotional wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, puberty, relationships, sexual health, and mental health. Every school has a named school nurse, and young people can also use the confidential ChatHealth text service for advice.

WISH – Walsall Integrated Sexual Health Services

WiSH provides free and confidential sexual health services, including contraception advice, STI testing, treatment, and support. They help people understand contraception choices, sexual health, and how to stay safe. Appointments can be booked online or by phone, with clinics across Walsall.

Brook

Brook provides sexual health and wellbeing advice, including information on relationships, contraception, puberty, and health education. Their resources help parents understand what young people learn in RSE and how to support them.

Brook RSE at Home

Brook’s RSE at Home resources help families talk about relationships, growing up, consent, and staying safe in an age‑appropriate way. These tools support parents in having open, confident conversations at home.

Childline – 0800 1111

Childline offers confidential counselling and advice to anyone under 19. Topics include mental health, bullying, friendships, relationships, puberty, staying safe online, school worries, and more.

NSPCC – advice for families

The NSPCC provides expert safeguarding advice, including information on online safety, healthy relationships, child protection, and wellbeing. It helps parents understand risks and how to keep children safe.

Health for Teens

Lots of information about a range of health and wellbeing topics, including a text service for School Nurses to receive expert advice.

Young Minds

YoungMinds is a mental health charity supporting children and young people. They offer advice on emotions, wellbeing, school pressure, anxiety, and practical steps for seeking support.

Stonewall Young Futures

Stonewall Young Futures is a digital platform offering guidance for LGBTQ+ young people on education, careers, training, mental health, self‑advocacy, and homelessness. It helps young people gain confidence and explore their next steps.

The Proud Trust

The Proud Trust supports LGBTQ+ young people through youth groups, mentoring, online chat (Proud Connections), and school resources. They help young people feel safe, supported, and proud of who they are.

Just Like Us

Just Like Us is the LGBTQ+ young people’s charity, providing school resources, talks, ambassadors, and Pride Groups to promote inclusion and tackle bullying. They help ensure LGBT+ young people can thrive in school and beyond.

CEOP Education

Run by the National Crime Agency, CEOP’s (the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) ThinkUKnow programme teaches online safety, covering grooming, exploitation, social media risks, and how to report concerns. It uses age‑appropriate videos and guides to help families stay safe online.

CEOP Education - Parents

The CEOP parent pages provide guidance on supporting children online, recognising risks, setting boundaries, and reporting concerns through CEOP.

ChildNet

Childnet is a children’s online safety charity helping young people navigate the digital world safely. Their resources cover cyberbullying, screen time, online identities, gaming safety and safe digital habits.

The Mix

The Mix provides free information and support for under‑25s on relationships, mental health, drugs, money, housing, and sexual health. Includes articles, helplines, and chat services.

Family Lives

Family Lives offers advice, early intervention and crisis support for all aspects of parenting, including behaviour, mental health, bullying, family breakdown, and emotional wellbeing. They run a free confidential helpline, online chat, and parenting courses.

PSHE Association – evidence and research

The PSHE Association provides evidence‑based guidance, research, and best practice for high‑quality PSHE and RSHE education. It helps parents understand what strong PSHE looks like in schools.

BBC Bitesize – Secondary PSHE

A range of videos to support PSHE learning, encompassing media literacy, RSE, financial literacy, social education and mental health.

BBC Bitesize – Parenting

Articles to support parents with children’s life online, wellbeing, learning and development.

The National Autistic Society

Accurate, up-to-date advice and guidance for autistic people, their families, community and healthcare professionals.

The National Autistic Society – Sex Education

Advice and guidance for autistic adults and parents on talking about sex and sexuality, navigating intimate relationships, staying safe, and more.

St John Ambulance

St John Ambulance provides first aid advice and training, including child and infant CPR, recovery position, choking guidance, and paediatric first aid information. Their resources help families learn essential life‑saving skills.

NHS – Help for teenagers, young adults and students

The NHS provides medically reviewed information about physical and mental health topics relevant to PSHE: puberty, hygiene, mental wellbeing, contraception, healthy lifestyles and first aid.

NHS Healthier Families

A family‑friendly NHS hub offering information on diet, exercise, sleep, healthy habits, and supporting children to stay active and well.

Gov.uk – Parenting, childcare and children’s services

Gov.uk provides official government guidance on childcare, parenting, fostering, adoption, benefits, school support, and family services. It helps families understand their rights and available support.
